MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Horry County students had a chance to get a glimpse of what their future holds Wednesday.

Horry County Schools hosted a career readiness event to give students a chance to explore the opportunities that await them after graduation.

More than 20 companies and industry leaders participated in the event held at the Academy of Technology and Academics. This event is part of a five-month program highlighting the numerous career and technical education programs offered at each of the district’s high schools.

“(It) gives companies an opportunity to see what’s going on within the school, connect with students and discuss internship opportunities and career opportunities. Because it’s truly essential to the workforce and this is a top priority for all of our companies,” said BJ Beaver, Workforce Talent Manager at Partnership Grand Strand.

Attendees were also able to learn about career opportunities and internships available in their desired fields.

One HCS student said she wanted to become a nurse after graduation. These were inspired after multiple people in her life were diagnosed with cancer.

Another student said he wanted to become an HVAC technician because air conditioning is in such high demand in this area.
