Research in Frostpunk 2 is an important part of the game, and you’ll be tasked with building a research institute very early on in the game. However, the game doesn’t say how to do this or where to go, so you usually have to figure this out on your own. Luckily, this guide has everything you need to know about how to get a lab as quickly as possible.

Frostpunk 2 has a lot of great technology to research, but you can’t do it unless you have the right equipment. Research is also important because it affects trust from factions. This is a very early part of the game and you don’t want to ruin the experience by getting too frustrated at this point. However, it becomes much easier if you know the first steps required to build a laboratory.

You’ll be looking for ways to build a laboratory in Frostpunk 2 right away, as this is one of the first quests in the game after the prologue. This will help prevent your city from getting cold. However, the first thing you need to do is build a residential district on the edge of the city. Without it, you cannot build a research institute. Then you need to continue working on that residential area and expand it.

Gaining the support and trust of your faction is essential in Frostpunk 2, as is keeping your agenda top of mind.

To do this, click on a residential area and press the button in the bottom right that looks like four arrows pointing in opposite directions. This button can be seen in YouTuber JavierHowTo’s video and if you click on it and successfully expand your district, you will be given an additional housing slot. From there, go to the bottom right corner of the screen and find the icon that says “Building Construction.”

Note that you will need heat stamps and prefabs to build/expand anything in Frostpunk 2.

Click on it and the Research Institute will pop up and should be one of the few options available early in the game. Click on it and look for the black flashing circle near the residential area you built. Once you place your laboratory within the black circle, construction time will begin. Once completed, you can begin your investigation.

Frostpunk 2 allows you to create laws to speed up your research. In the meantime, to use this new building, go back to the bottom right of the screen and click on the icon labeled “Idea Tree.” This will allow you to achieve your next goal of researching how to increase coal production in Frostpunk 2. .
