Overview: James Madison University will be the first university in Virginia to sign the Okanagan Charter, which provides institutions with a common language, principles and framework for health promotion across campuses.
James Madison University will expand efforts to promote health and well-being across campus by formally adopting the Okanagan Charter on Oct. 8 from 2-2:30 p.m. on the Festival Conference and Student Center lawn.
Created in June 2015, the Charter provides institutions with a common language, principles, and framework for health promotion across campus. JMU is the first Virginia university to sign the Okanagan Charter.
JMU will join the National Health Promotion Campus Network in 2022, and our campus-wide health efforts will continue to be productive and engaged in a comprehensive effort to create synergies across teaching, learning, research, and engagement. We have emphasized strong learning and a strong sense of community.
“By adopting the Okanagan Charter, JMU is committed to embedding health into all aspects of campus culture across administrative, operational and academic roles and leading in health promotion activities and collaborations,” said JMU President Charlie King. Ta.
“JMU supports this charter now and into the future by ensuring all campus practices and policies are focused on students, faculty, staff, and communities both locally and globally,” King said. he added.
The university also promotes campus-wide health through its strategic plan, the President’s Council on Health and Well-Being, human-centered programs such as Balanced Dukes, and the work of the JED Foundation.
