Landmannen joins the PAN Swedish Research Center, which has secured new Formas funding for plant-based protein research until 2028, shortly after starting construction of the SEK 1.2 billion factory in Lidköping.
PAN Sweden is a national interdisciplinary research center led by Orebro University that focuses on transforming plant-based protein sources into flavorful and nutritious products that promote gut, metabolic and mental health. Consumer behavior will also be investigated as part of the research. The goal of the center is to position Sweden as a world leader in sustainable food innovation with plant-based proteins.
Robert Blumer, Professor and Coordinator of the PAN Sweden Consortium, said: “High levels of engagement by business and the public sector are critical for an effective transition to more sustainable and healthy consumption.”

According to a press release, the announcement of the new grant from Formas on September 26 means that PAN Sweden will continue to operate for a further four years.

Along with PAN Sweden, Lantmannen is a key partner in several major green protein research initiatives, including SLU Grogrund in Sweden and GreenPlantFood in Norway. The Lantmannen Research Foundation also runs several projects focusing on proteins from wheat, oats, peas and broad beans.
