Ethan Robson and Taylor Charters are back in training on a “drip” with a view to returning to action for Carlisle United.
The midfield duo has been out of pre-season with a hamstring injury.
They are working towards returning to fitness but are not ready to return to action yet.
But head coach Mike Williamson said the duo is making good progress toward an expected return in the fall.
“They’re on IV nutrition and back to training, but they’re not there yet,” the Blues manager said.
“I think it will take a week or two for them to get into serious training and then they have to adjust for the game.
“They’ve obviously been out for a period of time each, so they’re coming close and working hard.
“They are very honest and desperate to get into the team and make an impact on the team, so they will be welcomed back when they are fit.”
United have been plagued by injuries since the start of the season, with certain areas of midfield being hit by absentees.
In addition to Robson, who signed for Homeland Charters in the summer, the Blues are currently without Dylan McJosh for “a number of weeks” with a calf problem.

ACL victim Callum Guy, who has been sidelined for an extended period since November last year, continues to make progress as he strengthens his fitness in preparation for a return to action.
Others on the sideline include strikers Georgie Kelly and Daniel Adu-Adjei, and defenders Ben Williams and Aaron Hayden.
Williamson said the team’s “bare-bones” nature was behind the decision to bench captain Charlie Wyke for Tuesday’s home game against Notts County.
The striker will be hoping to recall his squad for this weekend’s game against Colchester United as Carlisle look to bounce back from back-to-back home defeats. Midfielder Harrison Neal, who made a good impression after coming on as a substitute, is also likely to aim for a call-up.
One positive on the fitness front is the return of Jack Robinson. The defender returned from an ankle injury and was one of the substitutes on Tuesday night.
