BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Just in time for the snow and ice season, one of the Boys and Girls Club of Bend’s Ford Transit vans went live at Les Schwab Tires Wednesday afternoon. – Fitting new, top-of-the-line winter tires during installation demonstrations. A store on Northeast Third Avenue.

I’m looking forward to it! Ben Le Schwab manager Steve Curtis said: “They can come see this process and talk about tires and talk about what we do and how important tires are to today’s vehicles, especially in Bend and Central Oregon. That’s a good thing.

The demonstration was part of BGCB’s #Workforce Wednesday program, which introduces young people to potential career paths and provides hands-on experience in a variety of industries. About 12 students, ranging from fourth to eighth grade, participated in the demonstration.

“This is an opportunity for fifth grade and middle school youth to really explore the different careers available in Central Oregon,” said Beth Goggins, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend. “It’s an opportunity to do that.”

In addition to the tire store, students had the opportunity to tour a variety of area businesses, including Saks, REI, and Hayden Homes Amphitheater.

“Today at Les Schwab was a great place for the kids to learn more about careers here. I think there were a lot of kids jumping up and down when they saw the tires being put on our van. ,” Goggins said.

It was a particularly exciting day for Dominic Wilson, a fifth-year student who hopes to work in the industry one day. He talked about some of his career goals.

“Probably to change tires to keep people happy and to avoid slipping and crashing in the snow,” Wilson said.

“I’m excited to partner with this young generation and see if I can help them find the right career path,” said Curtis.

The tires were donated as part of Les Schwab’s Tire for Purpose program. Four other nonprofit organizations will benefit, including Bethlehem Inn, Furnish Hope, NeighborImpact and Oregon Adaptive Sports.
