Former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance are reacting on social media to Vice President Kamala Harris’ border visit on Friday.
During a visit to Arizona, a key battleground state, Harris slammed President Trump for his role earlier this year in blocking a border security bill that was the product of months of bipartisan negotiations.
“This was the strongest border security bill in decades. It was supported by Border Patrol unions. And it goes into effect today and should produce real-time results for our country.” spoke at a rally in Douglas, a town on the U.S.-Mexico border.
President Trump responded to Harris’ speech, claiming it was “too late!”
“Why didn’t Kamala give this speech four years ago? It’s too late! She has done unrecognizable damage to our country. There is no excuse for what she did. She committed a crime! Now she is begging for forgiveness, but our country will never forgive this gross incompetence at our borders. Only I can fix it. Let’s make it great!” President Trump posted on Truth Social.
Meanwhile, Vance commented on Harris’ post, saying: “As president, I will protect our nation’s sovereignty, secure our borders, and repair our broken immigration system. And I will work with Democrats, Republicans, and independents to do it.”
Here’s Vance’s response: “That’s great, but can we do it now? You’re the current Vice President.”
Harris visited the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday as part of an offensive on issues that President Trump has made central to his re-election bid.
