ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Several education experts and leaders gathered this afternoon to discuss the pipeline from community schools to successful careers.
The conversation took place at Rock Valley University’s Aviation Career Education Center. Leaders discussed how federal career funding can be used to increase the availability of programs at facilities, as well as issues currently facing the local workforce.
One official praised the efforts of local universities.
“The purpose of postsecondary and community college education is to ensure that everyone has access to the greatest social welfare program ever devised by mankind. That is work. Without jobs, what is the purpose of education?” So, Rock Valley is doing a great job of preparing people for work,” said Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamooth.
The representative also said challenges facing educators and students include transportation costs and supplies needed for courses.
