Vulnerable adults, frontline workers and people aged 65 and over on the Isle of Man are being invited to take up the offer of a booster coronavirus vaccination in the autumn.
The program will be rolled out in October following advice from the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization.
Manx Care said seasonal influenza vaccines will also be provided at the same time to provide “maximum protection over the winter months”.
Scheduled appointments will be given to eligible people, with adult care home residents and those most at risk being the first to be vaccinated.
The provider said both shots are available to people aged 65 and over, those in clinical risk groups under that age, residents of elderly care homes, and front-line health and social care workers. He said it would be provided.
The majority of the program will be carried out by vaccination teams at Noble Hospital’s private patient units, with a limited number of appointments available on selected days at facilities in the north, south and west of the island.
Appointments will be made to visit elderly care home residents directly at the facility.
ManxCare will contact people aged 65 and over and those in clinical risk groups to book an appointment.
Eligible people can also book via the online booking system or by contacting the vaccination team.
The health organization has asked frontline health and social care workers who wish to receive the jab to contact the team to book an appointment from October 7.
People aged 18 to 64 who live with someone who is immunosuppressed and who are the primary caregiver of an elderly or disabled person can also contact the team for a flu vaccination.
