(CBS Detroit) More than 2,700 health care workers at Michigan Medicine have sent a strike notice to hospital management and management.
The workers, represented by the Service Employees International Union Michigan Healthcare Union (SEIU HCMI), will go on a one-day strike on October 15, according to the announcement.
Almost 98% of the group voted to call a strike.
The workers are demanding higher wages and the restoration of benefits stripped away during the pandemic, the statement said. Negotiations for the first union contract began a year ago.
“We remain focused on our goal of achieving a successful contract resolution, and negotiations are ongoing,” said SEIU HCMI Deputy Director Larry Alcoff.
