KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Michigan National Guard aims to excite students across the region and the variety of career opportunities it offers.
As part of MiCareerQuest Southwest, the National Guard offered consideration of numerous career paths, including engineering, cyber, medical, chemical reaction, military police, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations.
The National Guard brought military equipment to the Kalamazoo Expo Center for students to see and try out.
“We want them to be excited about the Guard, learn about the Guard, and maybe aspire to join the Guard in the future,” said Lt. Nathan Vandenbosch, Michigan Army National Guard. “There is,” he said.
Students had the opportunity to observe and use military equipment in action by climbing onto a truck, playing the role of a “gendarme” and pretending to provide medical aid.
Students also had the opportunity to interact with current military members in their fields, ask questions and receive equipment support.
Vandenbosch said the reaction was one of excitement.
“Once they are released from their small column, they immediately run towards the military equipment and jump on it or climb into the cab of the truck and start pretending to be driving the car.” Denbosch said. “It’s great to see.”
The event continues until Wednesday.
