What’s happening: Michigan Technological University has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Jack Donnelly Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence, an annual award given by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA). This award recognizes agencies that have demonstrated exceptional efforts in preventing foreign theft of U.S. defense and national security technology. Michigan Technological University’s Keweenaw Research Center (KRC) was one of five recipients out of more than 10,000 eligible organizations nationwide. The award was formally presented at the University’s Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, October 11, by Andrew Lochri, DCSA’s Assistant Director of Counterintelligence and Insider Threats.
Long history in government: KRC originally worked with the U.S. government 71 years ago to assist the U.S. military with deep snow maneuver testing. Today, KRC is a world-class multidisciplinary research facility focused on military, industrial, and commercial vehicle applications, operating over 900 acres of specialized proving grounds designed to evaluate ground vehicle systems. What’s next: Continued work with KRC and various government agencies puts Michigan Technological University and the Upper Peninsula on a united path. Additional students are applying to the university, allowing future talent to fill key roles.
