Miron Construction hosts work experience at local high school

APPLETON (NBC 26) — Miron Construction hosted a hands-on construction experience at Appleton East High School for more than 200 Appleton-area students. The company hopes to inspire the next generation of construction workers.

A hands-on construction career fair was held for Appleton Area School District students to gain insight into alternative learning paths. Miron Construction highlighted the need for a new generation of workers to fill the gap in the construction industry. One student trainee expressed her excitement about learning. He learned carpentry skills while helping build his own high school.

On Monday morning, Neenah-based company Miron Construction gave these students the opportunity to discover an alternative path to classroom learning. “They may not need to go to a four-year school to find their passion,” said Miron Construction Education Manager Dawn Grenzer Stumpf.

Grenzer Stumpf added that the industry needs a new generation of workers.

“A lot of our talent has reached retirement age and there is a gap. So I believe that only one in three people will replace them,” Grenzer-Stumpf said. Ta.

On Monday morning, Miron taught basic construction skills to students at one of the sites, which happened to be the Appleton East High School addition/renovation site.

John Jorgensen, a third-year student at Appleton East, is also doing a youth carpentry apprenticeship with Miron.

“I wake up looking forward to it every day,” Jorgensen said excitedly. “Now I can go to work, and in the future I can say to my kids, ‘Oh yeah, I built the high school.'”

Therefore, for him, the day was doubly special.

“I have friends who came on the field trip today, friends who came on the field trip today, and I’m just like, ‘Hey, this is my job,'” Jorgensen said. added.

Miron also said he is happy to be able to build connections with the community by continuing to demonstrate the importance of construction in everyday life.
