The two teams have faced each other six times since the 2017 season, with three wins each. Cameron Grohaus and Zemonate Peck led the team with two interceptions this season. Grothaus paced the offense with 39 total tackles, while Peck had 26 total tackles and six for loss (29 yards). Through five games, a total of six players had tackles resulting in a loss of 10 yards or more.

Senior punter Brenden Luck continues to be the best player in the country, ranking first in the league and third in the nation with an average of 45.8 punts per game.

The team is off to a strong start in its second year under coach Dan Metluck, going 4-1 and 1-0 in league play. By the way, Michigan Tech is off to its best start since the 2015 season, when the Black & Gold started the season undefeated in five games.
