MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – A new medical building is being constructed in the Lowcountry, located directly across from East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.

Thomas Hayden, East Cooper Medical Center’s chief strategy officer, said the two-story, 40,000-square-foot medical facility will be called the Center for Women’s Health.

“Continuing East Cooper’s legacy, it will be a centralized location where women in our community can find the best doctors under one roof,” Hayden said. “At its foundation, women’s health has always been important to our community, and we look forward to taking it to the next stage.”

Novant Health owns East Cooper Medical Center and will also own the new women’s medical center, Hayden said.

He said the new facility will offer a variety of women’s health services.

“Once the building is complete, it will house many services so that women in the area can expect obstetrics, gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine for high-risk pregnancies, neonatology, breast surgery, pelvic medicine, and other medical care. “Of course there will be mammography in the building,” Hayden said.

He said he expected construction site preparation to begin in the first quarter of next year. Once that begins, Hayden said he expects the facility to open within 18 months.

She said the opening of this new facility is important, noting that since its inception, East Cooper Medical Center has always strived to care for women in the region.

“We affirm East Cooper’s roots in a commitment to women’s health,” Hayden said. “You would be hard-pressed to find a neighbor, friend or family member whose child was not born in the old or new hospital. We continue that tradition by caring for all women at various stages of their lives. ” of their lives. ”

Hayden said anyone interested in following the construction process for the new medical building should check out LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and the website for future announcements.
