TEXARKANA, Texas — A family-owned health market opened in September in hopes of bringing more nutritious options to the area.
Back to Roots Health and Wellness Market is currently preparing for its grand opening later this month in the former Fun Fare Gift and Boutique at 2315 Richmond Road.
“It’s very exciting. We’ve been waiting for it to open for a long time,” said Janhvi Patel, who runs the store with her mother Minal.
The Patels purchased the building in May 2022, making their family’s dream a reality in just over a year.
Back to Roots offers gluten-free regular foods, household cleaning products, health and beauty care, a variety of drink options, supplements, and what owners describe as high-quality pet food.
“We have a little bit of everything,” Patel said.
Patel and her family travel to Dallas every few months to stock up on healthy products.
“There’s not a little bit of an all-you-can-eat store around here, because the closest one is Whole Foods in Shreveport,” Patel said. “Based on the feedback we get from customers, we have a lot of items for sale here that customers are ordering online or traveling out of town.”
Patel wants to make ‘Back to Roots’
It’s a center for people to get what they need, “no matter where you are in your health journey.”
“We want to cater to everyone and help them, whether they’re just starting out or have been doing it for years,” she said.
The mother-daughter duo, who are certified health coaches, also offer health advice to their clients.
Local Colton Foltz is excited to have another source of healthy products.
“I came here because I was looking for healthier food options, better ingredients, more organic, no artificial flavors or colors, and less processed sugar,” Foltz says. said. “I think this location in Texarkana will help spread awareness about how toxic some of our regular foods can be. Just by giving people more choices, people will make better decisions. There will be more opportunities.”
The name Health Market has a double meaning. The first meaning refers to the roots of plants whose owners believe they should be eaten by humans.
“The second meaning refers to our ancestors, because our ancestors didn’t eat processed foods. They ate much better than we do,” Patel said. .
Back to Roots’ grand opening is October 25th at 10:30am. The event will include a ribbon cutting, raffle, free samples and discounts.
