Puerto Rican artist Nicky Jam on Wednesday withdrew his support for presidential candidate Donald J. Trump. In a video uploaded to Jam’s Instagram, the reggaeton star sits in a luxury car and yells at Trump in response to racist comments made by Tony Hinchcliffe about Puerto Ricans and Latinos during a rally over the weekend. The video shows him explaining that he does not support it.
“The reason I supported Donald Trump is because I believed it was best for the U.S. economy, where many Latinos live…many immigrants who are suffering from economic conditions,” Jam said in Spain. spoke in words. “(Trump) is a businessman, so I felt it was the right decision.”
He said a month later, “I never thought in my life that a comedian would come up and criticize me and say bad things about me (Puerto Rico).” “That is why I am renouncing my support for Donald Trump and will distance myself from any political conversation. Puerto Rico deserves respect.”
Hinchcliffe, who appeared as a speaker at Trump’s rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden on October 27, made derogatory comments about Latinos and their children. He added, “There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
This blatantly racist comment sparked outrage from prominent Puerto Ricans as well as media and entertainment figures including Bad Bunny, Don Omar, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin.
Jam previously made headlines when she appeared at Trump’s rallies, where she was introduced as an avid supporter of Trump’s campaign and was misgendered, sparking outrage. President Trump clearly misunderstands that Jam is a “sexy” woman, voicing support for “Latin music superstar Nicki Jam” and saying, “Do you know Nicki?” She’s hot. ! ”
Jam did not comment on the misgendering and remained relatively quiet about his participation in the rally until Wednesday’s update.
