FLATZ – Georgia Tech, the No. 20 volleyball team, defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies in three sets Friday night at O’Keefe Gym to improve to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets dominated the Hokies (6-9, 0-5 ACC), holding the visiting team to just 12 points in the second set.

This marks the 36th consecutive packed game at O’Keefe Gymnasium, a streak dating back to the 2021 season. Junior middle blocker Liv Moggridge set the standard Friday, leading the team with a .625 batting average for the game. Bianca Bertolino continues her quest for 1,000 kills, scoring nine points in Friday’s match and moving within three. Larissa Mendez led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills and had 10 digs, reaching her second consecutive double-double. Luanna Emiliano also joined Mendez for the Yellow Jackets, posting a club double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs. The Yellow Jackets came just short of their season-high 54 digs (out of 3 sets) against Coastal Carolina (Sept. 2 and 24) and came close to their season-high digs (out of 3 sets). .

Set 1 (GT 25 – VT 19)
Friday’s game started out close, with the Hokies building a lead in the first set and forcing the Yellow Jackets to claw back within the first eight points. Georgia Tech battled back to tie the score at nine points apiece, gradually closing the gap on Virginia Tech. There were seven ties for the remainder of the match, but the Technology team was never in a disadvantage. Bertolino and Mendez led the team through the first set with five kills.
Set 2 (GT 25 – VT 12)
The Yellow Jackets scored four points to establish an early 6-2 lead and close out the second set quickly. Virginia Tech could not find a response to Georgia Tech’s offensive game, which included nine kills, three aces, and eight blocks. Georgia Tech used a six-point run to make the score 19-7 in the third set, pushing the game out of reach.
Set 3 (GT 25 – VT 20)
With the game in jeopardy, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech traded points, with neither team ever more than two points away from each other, but the Yellow Jackets established a three-point lead to take the game to 10-7. did. The Hokies answered with one point, and the Yellow Jackets scored three more. Georgia Tech controlled the game 21-13, then Virginia Tech scored six points to get within two points, but the Jackets closed out the set with a 4-1 run. Five Yellow Jackets had multiple kills in the third and final set, with Tamara Otene leading the group with four kills.

The Yellow Jackets will remain in O’Keefe Gymnasium to close out the ACC weekend against Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s game will be sold out and streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
