BLACKSBURG – No. 21 Virginia Tech defeated SMU 1-0 Thursday night at Thompson Field.
The Hokies are 4-0 at home in the ACC this season. Tech improved to 5-1-1 through seven ACC games with 16 points, the most in seven games since 2013.
how did it happen
The first half was a close game with both teams’ defenses limiting shots. Lauren Hargrove made a diving save to the right side in the fifth minute, ending the Mustangs’ best showing of the night.
The Hokies’ offense came alive in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs 11-1 in the final 45 innings. From a corner, Natalie Mitchell sent a perfect cross to Taylor Price, who headed the ball into the back of the goal for the winning goal. 1-0 match.

It was Price’s fifth goal in the last four games.
Tech kept up the pressure but was unable to extend their lead. Anna Weir had another solid shot for the Hokies in the 73rd minute, but her shot from 18 yards inside the box was saved.
With the win, the Hokies recorded their eighth shutout of the season and third in an ACC game.
