Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the embattled Republican candidate in the North Carolina gubernatorial race, was treated for burns Friday night after an accident at a campaign event hosted at a truck show in Mount Airy, North Carolina. A spokesperson for the lieutenant governor and the lieutenant governor said that Political consultant.
Robinson’s spokesman, Mike Lonergan, said in a text message that the lieutenant governor is “in good spirits.” His consultant, Matt Hurley, echoed that message Friday night on social media platform X.
Robinson was treated for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy, his campaign said in a statement, adding that he is scheduled to return to the campaign trail as scheduled Saturday morning.
Robinson was at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mount Airy, where dozens of large trucks were paraded through the streets around 5 p.m. It is unclear how Robinson was injured.
He spent much of Friday campaigning around the state, including at Republican headquarters in Moore County, the Golden Corral restaurant in Laurinburg and a Mexican restaurant in Rockingham.
Robinson’s campaign has been in turmoil since CNN reported last week that it linked him to disturbing comments on a porn site. He told supporters in Moore County Friday morning that he plans to remain in the race, ignoring calls to abstain.
