The 9th annual Career Pathways Challenge and Guidance Retreat, held at the Vernon James Conference Center in Plymouth on September 30, 2024, brought together participants from a wide range of institutions across the region to set their sights on success. I got it. Leaders in education, workforce development, and community services came together to collaborate on solutions that build stronger career paths for residents of Northeastern North Carolina.
The event featured insightful workshops, including a session on project management with Pat Harris, Director of Planning, Economic Development and Community Services at the Middle East Commission. Dr. Stacey Gerard, vice president for continuing education at Beaufort County Community College, also led an advanced workshop on the ethical and effective use of generative AI in career pathway projects and other fields.
Participants engaged in collaborative discussions, brainstorming sessions, and teamwork activities aimed at strengthening career development efforts tailored to the needs of the region’s workforce. Enthusiasm for continued collaboration and a commitment to career readiness was evident throughout the day.

Future outlook: February 10, 2025
NENC Career Pathways is pleased to announce Part 2 of the Career Pathways Challenge, which will be held on February 10, 2025 at Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro, North Carolina. At this event, 10 teams will present their completed Career Pathway Challenge projects. The project addresses workforce challenges and aligns with regional development goals. The event will feature a gallery walk, presentations, and an awards ceremony recognizing the most impactful projects.
