career afternoon
Including his two years at North Carolina A&T, Beishul Tuten now has over 3,000 rushing yards and 3,046 yards. If the 1,578 yards he gained at North Carolina A&T were at Virginia Tech, he would be fourth on the all-time rushing leader list and only the fourth player to surpass 3,000 yards. Tech’s leading rusher was Silas Lawrence, who gained 3,767 yards on 843 carries from 1979 to 1982. Kevin Jones ranked second with 3,475 yards on 616 carries from 2001 to 2003. Roscoe Coles ranked third with 3,459 yards on 656 carries from 1974 to 1977.
Defense dominates Stanford
The defensive shutout in the first half marked the third time in the Brent Pry era that an opponent did not score in the first half. Tech held Virginia to a 24-0 halftime score in 2023 and held Wofford to a 20-0 halftime score in 2022. Stanford’s seven points in the game tied for the fewest points allowed in the Brent Pry era. The last time an opponent was held to just seven points was in 2022 in a 27-7 win over Wofford.
Tech also had five sacks in the game. This is the second time this season that Tech’s defense has had five or more sacks in a game. The Hokies scored six points in a September 14 game against Old Dominion. This is the eighth time in the Brent Pry era that a Tech player has had five or more sacks in a game.
The winning streak continues
Saturday’s game marks the 376th consecutive game in which Virginia Tech has scored. The Hokies are fourth in both career streaks and streaks.
