Orlando Health acquires Brookwood Baptist Health

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A system-wide celebration was held Tuesday, Oct. 1, to commemorate Brookwood Baptist Health becoming part of the healthcare organization Orlando Health.

Several employees and staff from all Baptist Health locations had the opportunity to meet and interact with the new leadership.

Brookwood Baptist Health, formerly owned by Tenet Health, is now being taken over by Orlando Health.

Change won’t happen right away, but in the coming weeks, healthcare leaders will begin listening to their communities, employees, and physicians and developing plans to make a positive impact.

As for the long-term impact, medical leaders say the goal is to create a better place to work for employees and doctors and improve patient care.

This move comes after Orlando Health leaders wanted to expand and grow outside of Florida, and this opportunity fulfilled all of their aspirations.

At this time, there are no plans to change the name of Brookwood Baptist Health, but we do hope to work to fill vacancies at the hospital over the next few months.

“We also want to have a positive impact on health care workers in central Alabama by taking a hard look at where we want to be, not only from a pay perspective but also from a benefits perspective. In doing so, Orlando Medical has a long history of being a great place to work,” said Thibault van Marque, the company’s senior vice president in Alabama.

Orlando health leaders said they have had the opportunity to learn more about central Alabama over the past eight weeks and are excited to hit the ground running.
