A new extreme obstacle course has opened in Kohokuta Township. Doug King, a retired Marine and member of the Brighton Area Fire Department, helped design North Point Farm’s Apex Challenge Trek, aimed at fitness enthusiasts, fellow veterans, first responders and the general public.

“It’s based on a 5-kilometre trail run, and we currently have 12 obstacles scattered across those 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles,” he says.

“The terrain is varied; there are hills, sand, rocks, fields, wooded trails, and runs along the Shiawassee River.”

But he says the course is open to anyone, whether it’s for individuals or corporate team building.

“If you want to take a walk, if you want to run, if you want to compete, you can jump an obstacle, you can jump an obstacle twice,” King says.

“We set up the course like a ski resort, with green, blue and black diamond approaches. Every obstacle has an easy, medium and difficult approach. That means one week you can run the course one way and the next You can run the course during the week and try something different. ”

For now, King says participants must be 18 or older and reservations are required.

“You don’t have to be super fit to do this. If you just want to get out. It’s a 5k course, so it’s three miles, so it’s about an hour walk.”

Apex will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting on Monday, October 28, which is National First Responder Day.
