OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – “Let’s Move.” Reach the 1 mile race where everyone is a winner.
Organizer Dr Richard Brown said: ‘Thanks to Physical Activity Day, now in its seventh year, people have become more knowledgeable about their health in terms of eating habits and are now passing this information on to others. We are now offering it.” He is also the Executive Director of the REACH Program.
The seventh annual event coincides with Mayor Jean Stothert’s proclamation naming September 28, 2024 as Physical Activity Day.
Participants like Makayla Skrzynski and her two daughters proved that you don’t have to be an avid athlete or even wear gym clothes to get moving.
“They wanted to dress up for the occasion, so they’re wearing sparkly crocs and dresses,” Skrzynski said. “We love being physically active. It was a fun activity with the community.”
Even though she fell, she still crossed the finish line. But that’s just the beginning, said Brown, who has worked in health administration for decades.
“If you walk until you break a sweat at least three times a week, you’re more likely to live long and stay healthy,” he said.
Runners and walkers celebrated and learned how their activities can help prevent health problems such as stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes, according to the Mayo Clinic.
There were also fun activities and goods that you could take home to continue your exercise routine.
