Officials said the incident involved a current student and a former student in front of the building. No injuries were reported.
CLEVELAND — East Technical High School in Cleveland was placed under a “Code Red” lockdown Tuesday afternoon after authorities said a student fired a gun during an altercation during dismissal.
The incident involved the teen and a former student in front of the building, according to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. A single gunshot rang out and the student was arrested by Cleveland police. The former student fled the area and authorities are currently searching for him.
East Technical College was placed on lockdown following the shooting, but it was later lifted and students were expelled. Additionally, CMSD said safety measures have been increased at several nearby schools out of an abundance of caution.
The shooting occurred just three days after two suspected arson fires broke out in and around East Tech’s gymnasium. Officials have not indicated that the two incidents are related.
Police continue to investigate the shooting.
