The humanitarian situation is worsening as Israeli attacks inside Lebanon continue.
As a result, the Foreign Office announced this evening that the UK will send £5 million in aid and UNICEF will distribute supplies to those in need.
The government said the aid package included essential medical supplies, hygiene kits and fuel for water stations to help meet the basic needs of thousands of displaced civilians across Lebanon.
The Foreign Office has also reopened its “Register to Stay” portal, allowing British nationals in Lebanon to fill in their details and notify the UK government of their whereabouts.
“The situation in Lebanon is of deep concern,” Development Minister Anneliese Dodds said in a statement.
“While we continue to urge British nationals to leave the country and have launched a ‘Register to Stay Portal’ to assist them in leaving the country, the UK will always remain a strong supporter of the Lebanese people.”
“That’s why we are providing £5 million to UNICEF to help civilians who have been displaced and are facing this humanitarian emergency.”
She reiterated the government’s call for an “immediate ceasefire” between Israel and Hezbollah “to prevent further civilian casualties and allow displaced people to return to their homes.”
