RAPIDS CITY, S.C. (KOTA) — Black Hills State University held its first-ever human services and education camp for Rapid City high school students on Friday.
The program connected students with professors and experts toward their dream careers.
“They rotate through six different sessions to learn about specific careers in human services and education,” said event organizer Samantha Smith. “We have three faculty presentations and activities from Black Hills State, as well as three community organizations.”
Students had the opportunity to watch demonstrations by local organizations such as Pennington County Search and Rescue and learn what their day-to-day jobs are like.
“Students can attend events like this and really see what a career in human services is like,” Smith said. “Events like this help solidify their interest in their field and help them plan for dual credit classes that they may take as juniors and seniors to get a better head start in college. It will help you stand up.”
Black Hills State plans to hold more events like this for Rapid City high school students and expand to other school districts in the area.
