STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Retro Fitness, which currently operates three gyms on Staten Island, has announced it will soon close its New Dorp location and offer members several options for switching health clubs. .
The 15,000-square-foot gym, located on the second floor of The Plaza at 2590 Hylan Ave., opened in 2017 and is the centerpiece of a strip mall that also includes The Vitamin Shoppe, Chipotle and Carvel.
According to an employee who answered the phone at the scene, the gym will officially close in the first week of November, and members will have the option of relocating their “home gym” to either Richmond Avenue or Veterans Road in New Springville. is given. West Gym in Tottenville. Gym users will soon receive an email with instructions on how to make the switch.
Those currently affiliated with the gym have been told the closure is the result of a “dispute with the landlord,” but the gym’s owner declined to comment. Sabo Brothers, the developer responsible for leasing space at The Plaza, said it was unaware of the closing until it was posted on social media.
“We were not informed of Retro’s closure, which is unfortunate as we understand they have a solid membership base,” the developer said in an email.
