Sanford Health has officially entered into a merger agreement with Wisconsin-based Marshfield Clinic Health System.
Plans for the merger were announced last July and are expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to a Sanford Health press release.
Marshfield Clinic Health System is a physician-led health system headquartered in Marshfield, Wisconsin serving rural Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Sanford Health is the largest regional health system in the United States, headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We operate in nine states, including Minnesota, and have 45 hospitals, 211 clinics, and more than 160 Good Samaritan Society senior living centers.
Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health, said in a press release that Sanford is “enhancing access to cutting-edge care and addressing the needs of patients across the rural Midwest. We are excited to invest in this new initiative.”
Clinic leaders said Sanford Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System will remain two separate and independent organizations until they close.
