HOLT, Mich. (WILX) – Students at Holt High School have many program opportunities to advance and succeed in the future.
“I’m ready for after high school,” said fourth-year student Jessica Hoar.
From an early age, Hua was interested in creating and selling products.
“I was selling hand-sewn scrunchies,” she says.
Dual enrollment allows Holt High School students like Jessica to earn college credit and pursue their marketing dreams.
She also participates in Holt’s DECA club, where she studies leadership, and works at Holt High School’s Rum Coffee Shop.
“I allocate my time to what I want to do,” Hua says.
This program helps students move along a career path and gives them purpose in school to feel fulfilled.
“For a lot of kids, sitting in a classroom just doesn’t work,” said Seth Holtry, also a fourth-grader.
Seth prefers classrooms with hands-on, creative activities. That’s why he decided to go to a vocational school.
“When you’re doing construction work, you have all the tools and stuff,” he says. “My hands are always in motion.”
He can use his hands and work with his team to rebuild things like mirror balls and light fixtures with LED lights.
“I think it helped me stay focused during and after class,” he says.
“College is something I’ve always wanted to pursue,” says senior Jason Cherichel. “From a cost standpoint, it seemed like a long shot to me.”
For students like Jason, early college programs give them the opportunity to realize their dreams of going to college and save money.
“It’s all college classes to help you prepare for college, rather than random classes thrown in for credit,” Jason says. “So you’re already in college.”
Whether students enroll in AP courses, CTE programs, dual enrollment, or early college courses, each has the opportunity to develop a unique learning experience.
Holt High School offers 17 different academic programs, including Holt Early College, Variety of Vocations, and Business Marketing.
