Your mission:
You will be an integral part of the engineering team delivering mission-critical software. You will work in a highly collaborative environment with Product, PMO, and QA and will be a hands-on developer of Medidata’s software applications. You’ll build products and tools trusted by all of Medidata’s internal engineering teams and customer-facing functions. Quality and standards are important to us. Although our projects are diverse (e-learning, observability tools and services, externalization of internal service APIs), our mission remains the same. Our applications are built with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and hosted on AWS. Our frontend uses HTML, CSS, jQuery, React, AJAX, and Bootstrap. As an engineer, you’ll be challenged to both develop new features in response to market demand and improve application performance and scalability to accommodate a rapidly growing user base. Use Ruby on Rails, relational and non-relational databases, and cloud services.
Analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, and maintain software in production environments Advocate and apply good technical practices such as continuous integration, test automation, automated infrastructure, and observability Use test-driven strategies ensure code quality and collaborate with test engineering to ensure feature quality Leverage agile methodologies to predict and mitigate risk, ensure team health, and manage complex tasks
responsibility:
Proven experience leading and shaping architecture design and development across large-scale modern microservices, cloud-based architectures of SaaS products Proposing and prototyping solutions to complex business problems and translating them into technology. Define and advocate for good engineering practices for your team Work closely with engineering management Lead product delivery Architecture group and be able to propose solutions based on well-known design patterns Troubleshoot production issues. Collaborate and provide possible workarounds and solutions in a timely manner Coach and mentor colleagues. Participate in code reviews to improve code quality and promote TDD/BDD approaches. Collaborate proactively and productively with other developers, test engineers, and business analysts. Speak strongly and positively in Scrum meetings. Contribute to Scrum artifacts
Qualifications:
BS or MS Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or related experience preferred Experience working on large, full-stack projects in an enterprise environment Experience designing and developing using microservices and event-driven architecture patterns Experience working with the latest UI technologies and Experience designing and developing web applications leveraging frameworks Experience web and services application security Experience designing, developing, and deploying applications and services on AWS Extensive experience using databases (MySQL or other relational databases) TDD and BDD experience Designing and developing application CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Github Actions, Cloudformation and Terraform. Experience with containers and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes Experience with application observability and distributed tracing. Good understanding of AWS Good understanding of source control Proven technical leader in an agile development environment Thrives in a team environment and has strong people communication skills Be a problem solver – create for difficult problems Find solutions that are meaningful to you Be ready to challenge the status quo – propose multiple solutions with pros and cons Take ownership and be proactive
As with all roles, Medidata sets the scope based on a number of factors, including job function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
The salary range for positions based in the New York metropolitan area is $157,500 to $210,000.
The salary range for positions based in the California Bay Area is $166,500 to $222,000.
The salary range for positions based in the Boston metropolitan area is $155,250 to $207,000.
The salary range for positions based in Texas or Ohio is $138,750 to $185,000.
The salary range for positions physically based in all other locations in the United States is $141,000 to $188,000.
Base salary is the portion of total compensation that Medidata provides to reward and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible to receive commissions based on the terms of the applicable plan document, and many of Medidata’s non-sales positions are eligible to receive annual bonuses.
