The secret whereabouts of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Russian President Vladimir Putin have been revealed on the fitness tracking app Strava, according to the Associated Press. It was reportedly exposed through the activities of a bodyguard.
An investigation by the French newspaper Le Monde found that the bodyguard’s Strava profile revealed the location of the hotel where Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met last year, as well as confidential information about Jill Biden and Melania Trump. His movements were also reportedly leaked.
Le Monde found 44 public accounts of individuals involved in the president’s national security, more than half of them in the U.S. Le Monde’s findings have already been evaluated by the U.S. Secret Intelligence Service, which emphasized the ban on the use of personal electronic devices and downplayed its potential impact among staff on duty.
The Secret Service said it did not assess that there was any impact on protection operations or a threat to protected personnel. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Baggili, a cybersecurity professor at Louisiana State University, said the development should lead to stricter data regulations.
