Farr, Texas – Farr San Juan Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) hosted the first PSJA College & Career Rally on October 8, 2024 at the Farr Event Center, drawing an audience of more than 1,150 people from across the district. PSJA second year students were inspired and encouraged. Take advantage of college and career advancement opportunities offered through the district’s nationally recognized PSJA Early College Program.

Through the PSJA Early College Program in partnership with South Texas College and other institutions of higher education, high school students can graduate with an associate’s degree or up to 60 college credit hours for free by the time they graduate from high school.
All PSJA ISD high schools are designated early college, making them innovative high schools that allow students to attend college and high school at the same time. Early college high schools provide rigorous instruction and provide academic, social, and emotional support services to help students succeed.
During the meeting, PSJA Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias encouraged second-year students to take full advantage of free college and career opportunities.

In addition to input from district leaders, University of South Texas President Dr. Ricardo Solis spoke to students about workforce demands and available opportunities and resources.
“It is a great vision for PSJA to give you career opportunities even though you are only a sophomore,” Dr. Solis told the students. “It’s great to be already planning and envisioning your future career at this stage in your life. South Texas College is a great partner to PSJA and we encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities available to you.” I will.”

A highlight of the gathering was keynote speaker Jessica Zamarripa, PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School Class of 2016 graduate, who shared her personal experience with the PSJA Early College program and how it has shaped her future. We talked about how it helped shape us. Doors are open to many opportunities, including working for NASA while earning your doctorate at Texas A&M University.
Throughout the event, students heard from their peers currently enrolled in the program by participating in live Q&A sessions, where panelists spoke about their early college journeys and the impact it had on their lives. .
The second-year students celebrated their commitment by vowing to take advantage of the free college and career opportunities available at PSJA ISD.
