Allan Hancock University invited more than 1,500 local high school and college students to its Santa Maria campus for the university’s annual Career Exploration Day on October 4th.

The event provided students with an opportunity to explore potential career paths and learn more about the university’s academic and career technical education programs.

“This event provides students with a first-hand look at how higher education can open doors to rewarding career paths and transform their futures,” said Hancock Superintendent and Chancellor Kevin G. Walthers. It’s a valuable opportunity to see it.”

Students also had the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 100 local businesses and Hancock faculty from the university’s various departments and degree programs.

Additionally, more than 50 of this year’s participating companies were hiring for entry-level positions, and they received resumes and interviewed Hancock students looking for work.

Companies that were hiring include PG&E, Santa Barbara County Office of Education, SpaceX, and Adient Aerospace.

“It’s great to be able to meet students who are interested in the job and have direct conversations with them,” said Miguel Torrez Fausto, club director of the Boys & Girls Club at the Mid-Central Coast Railroad Clubhouse. spoke. .

“I get to know them, learn about their interests and research, and find the best fit for the positions we have available,” he said. “That’s not necessarily possible if you just apply online.”

The university’s annual Career Exploration Day was hosted by Hancock’s Career Center, which provides resources, support and opportunities for students seeking employment.
