EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – More than 160 middle and high school students had the opportunity to explore careers in the clean energy field.
Xcel Energy has partnered with Slipstream, a nonprofit focused on combating climate change, for the Clean Energy Career Fair at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
Students learned about technological advances that will contribute to the future of buildings and energy. They also gained hands-on experience such as installing solar power and flying a drone.
Organizers said the clean energy workforce is growing, so it’s important to expose students to career possibilities early on.
“It’s great to partner with Excel because these sectors are expanding. Workforce development is very important for the energy sector. A lot of people are retiring, and we need to fill those positions. Harry Jaa, Slipstream’s event manager, says:
This is the second year that students have participated in the Clean Energy Career Fair.
Another fair will be held in Green Bay later this year.
