MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Superior Health Foundation hosted its annual gala to honor local nonprofit organizations.

For 13 years, Superior Health Foundation has partnered with nonprofit organizations for its annual celebration. This year’s nonprofit partner is Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center, a nonprofit that advocates for children in UP who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, or neglect.

Superior Health Foundation CEO Megan Murphy said Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center received approximately $15,000 in donations from the event.

“They are a new nonprofit in our community, but they serve all of UP. They were chosen because they applied and the application really resonated with our celebration committee. Because I submitted a document,” Murphy said.

The funds will be used to renovate the center’s forensic interview room.

“Beyond the funding, this shows that Superior Health Foundation has confidence in us, which is humbling,” said Sarah Seibert, executive director of the Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center. Ta. “They understand that it’s a health issue for children facing abuse and neglect. It will not have any negative effect on your health.”

That way, children don’t have to tell their stories over and over again.

“Northern Lights will open its doors in September 2023 to meet the needs of the one in six children in our community who face physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and human trafficking.” Seibert said. “We are able to work with the most vulnerable children and they are so strong. We are so lucky.”

In addition to presentations about the Aurora Children’s Advocacy Center and the Superior Health Foundation, guests spent the evening enjoying food, a silent auction, and a comedy hypnotist.

Seibert says if you’re hurting, you’re not alone. Call us at 906-262-0091 any time of the day or night for service.

Murphy said he would like to thank all the sponsors, including presenter Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson.
