Taylor Fritz comments on his fitness levels after reaching the Shanghai Masters semi-finals

2024 has been a long season for Taylor Fritz, but he is holding up well as he prepares for the Shanghai Masters semi-finals.

The American is into the last four at a Masters 1000 event for the fifth time in his career after defeating David Goffin in straight sets on Friday morning.

Fritz is just the second player from the United States to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals after Sebastian Korda in 2023.

The World number seven has looked strong during the ongoing tournament and he has yet to drop a set in Shanghai.

What did Taylor Fritz say about his fitness levels?

Taylor Fritz was impressive on serve and he won 70% of his second serve points in a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Goffin. The 26-year-old converted three of his seven break points and secured the victory in one hour and 22 minutes.

Fritz has played plenty of tennis in 2024 and he could be forgiven for feeling somewhat fatigued in the final portion of the campaign.

But after beating Goffin, the US Open runner-up is happy with his fitness and conditioning as he goes in search of a second Masters 1000 title.

“It’s been feeling pretty good actually, all things considered! At this time of the year it’s important to remember it’s been a long season,” Fritz said on court after his win.

“I think everybody has something going on and something bothering them. There’s some aches here and there, but we are just doing our best to finish strong!”

How many matches has Taylor Fritz played this season?

Fritz took his record for the 2024 season to 49 wins and 19 defeats after beating Goffin.

He has played in each of the Grand Slams and Masters 1000 this season, in addition to the Olympic Games and several 250 and 500 events.

He is preparing for his 59th match of the season against Novak Djokovic or Jakub Menšík in the Shanghai Masters semi-finals.

“I feel like sometimes it takes a couple of matches to find my routines, to find what feels good and what is working for me,” he added.

“I feel like once I get past the first two rounds, I feel very locked in. I’ve come this far already, so I might as well really dial it in and I’m just enjoying being here.”
