Texas Tech starting QB Behren Morton is expected to start Saturday against No. 10 Iowa State in Ames, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Morton was ejected from Saturday’s game against TCU after being tackled on his non-throwing shoulder. The Tech team initially had trouble figuring out the injury situation, and there were concerns about Morton’s health after the game.

The junior quarterback at Tech, who suffered a severe AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder through most of the 2023 season, appears to have avoided a similar fate this season.

Morton was listed as questionable on Texas Tech’s weekly injury report released Monday, and head coach Joey McGuire described the feeling surrounding Morton as optimistic that Morton will play.

“I’ll tell you, there’s nothing structurally wrong with Behren’s non-throwing shoulder,” McGuire said Monday during his weekly meeting with reporters. “He’s got a lot of movement back and tomorrow we’ll see how he feels. He’ll practice tomorrow too, he’ll practice Wednesday, but (we’re) very good I’m feeling good. I didn’t see anything because I was on a break and I thought he was good structurally, but it’s going to be tough. But we’re excited.
