The technology industry is home to eight out of the ten richest people in the world, but who will be the first to reach trillionaire status?

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, one of the world’s richest people, recently joined an exclusive group of wealthy people with a fortune of more than $200 billion (182.57 billion euros).

He therefore becomes the newest member of this elite club. This elite club includes only two other technology leaders: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Zuckerberg’s wealth is largely due to his position as the largest shareholder in Meta, the parent company of social media networks Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, and messaging platform WhatsApp.

Industry with the richest people in the world

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the three richest individuals in the world all come from the technology industry.

In fact, eight of the top 10 richest people come from this field.

These include such notable names as Oracle founder Larry Ellison, then Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Google’s holding company Alphabet co-founder Larry Page.

The high-tech industry is also one of the best-performing sectors, with six of the seven companies that have reached $1 trillion status coming from this sector.

According to a recent report from Informa Connect Academy, Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Meta are all valued at more than $1 trillion as of July 2024.

The report also examines which of today’s billionaires are most likely to reach trillionaire status, with the world expected to create its first trillionaire in as little as three years. I predict that it is possible.

The analysis was based on net worth data for the world’s 30 richest people and calculations of their average annual growth rate over the past five years.

They then used the results to create a 30-year forecast of each person’s wealth, predicting who was likely to become a trillionaire and estimating the year they would reach that status.

Who will become the world’s first millionaire?

Topping the list is Elon Musk, whose net worth “grows at an average rate of 109.88 percent every year,” potentially making him the first billionaire by 2027.

The bulk of Mr. Musk’s fortune is tied up in stakes in Tesla, the world’s most valuable automaker, and private rocket company SpaceX.

He also owns about 79% of Company X, which he acquired in 2022 for $44 billion (about 39.6 billion euros), but whose value has fallen significantly since then.

Additionally, Musk owns stakes in several startups, including Neuralink, The Boring Company, and xAI.

He is likely to be followed by India-based Adani Group founder Gautam Adani, who is expected to reach billionaire status by 2028.

That same year, Jensen Huang, one of the founders of the trillion-dollar company NVIDIA, is expected to become the next tech billionaire, with an annual growth rate of almost 112 percent in his net worth.

Of the 28 people predicted to become millionaires within the next 30 years, the technology sector alone accounts for 11 (about 40%).

The list also includes major industry figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page, Jeff Bezos, Zhang Yiming, founder of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, and Bill Gates, rounding out the list.
