The Ukraine war is completely changing modern warfare. Rather than tanks and artillery, militaries are increasingly relying on technologies such as drones and cyber intelligence to achieve their military goals. On GZERO World with Ian Bremer, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Adm. James Stavridis said the war is “changing shape before our eyes” in Ukraine.
On the same battlefield, soldiers are digging World War I-style trenches while also using artificial intelligence and unmanned systems. Thanks to these new technologies, Ukraine, a country without a military, was able to shoot down Russia’s main guided missile cruiser in the Black Sea. The United States is learning time-tested strategies from the Ukrainian military, and Stavridis predicts that military spending on troops and personnel will be significantly reduced over the next four years. Instead, the focus shifts to new technologies and the experts who can deploy them.
“This is a new warfare triad: unmanned systems, cyber and artificial intelligence, and special forces,” Stravlidis said.
