The Emory University Research Council (URC) announces its annual request for proposals (RFP) seeking funding to be used during the 2025-2026 cycle. This research is supported by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research, in collaboration with the Halle Institute for International Studies and the Fox Center for Research in the Humanities.

URC promotes rigorous and innovative scholarship in all academic disciplines for the benefit of the Emory community and beyond. URC supports:

Early career faculty who aim for research independence; More advanced faculty who want to address novel questions that advance their expertise; Teams of faculty who aim to transcend the boundaries of their respective disciplines and engage in innovative research.

Full-time continuing faculty at Emory University are eligible to apply. URC qualifications follow the criteria for “full-time faculty” as defined within each school. Postdocs, fellows, adjunct faculty, and adjunct faculty are not eligible to apply.

Each applicant may submit one proposal as Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Principal Investigator, or Investigator. Past URC award recipients must complete the required URC project report and wait three URC funding cycles from the date of their previous award completion before applying for new URC funding.

Proposals will be accepted for six categories of research and academic activities:

Arts: Visual and Performance Biology and Health Sciences Humanities Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Natural Sciences Social Sciences

The project period is one year from June 1, 2025. Awards are given across all six URC categories.

Except for the interdisciplinary category, the maximum award amount is $30,000 and most URC proposals include only one PI. Interdisciplinary proposals from two or more PIs can request up to $40,000 per award.

The Halle International Institute supports international research projects through the URC. Grantees in the URC category whose proposals include a significant international component may receive additional designation for the URC – Halle Institute Global Research Award.

Proposals for each funding category must be submitted within Emory’s InfoReady system by January 17, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

To apply, applicants must search for URC programs within InfoReady and apply to the URC funding program most directly related to their proposed research. A direct link to the application portal for each funding category will be provided within the complete RFP.

Notification of winning proposals is tentatively scheduled for late April 2025. The 2025-26 URC award period begins on June 1, 2025 and ends on May 31, 2026.

The online URC information session will be held on Wednesday, November 6th at noon. For more information about URC’s programs, please visit the URC website or email your questions to URC Administrative Support at urcappl@emory.edu.
