Influenza is highly contagious and anyone can become infected. It is especially harmful to the elderly, people with health problems such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease, and people with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women, people over 50, health care workers, and people caring for friends and family should get a flu shot.
The MTVA strongly recommends that all veterans receive an annual influenza vaccination. Each year, millions of veterans safely receive the seasonal influenza vaccine. For more information about seasonal vaccines, see Myths about Seasonal Influenza and Influenza Vaccines | CDC. Regardless of age, the flu shot is recommended not only for veterans, their loved ones, and the health care workers who care for them, but also for those with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, compromised immune systems, and the most vulnerable. Protect those in position. Pregnant woman.
