BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Beishul Tuten rushed for a Virginia Tech-record 266 yards and four touchdowns to lead Virginia Tech to a 42-21 victory on Thursday night. Ta.
Kyron Drones added two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass for the Hokies (4-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and cruised to their second straight win. He never followed me along the way.
“We beat a good team tonight,” Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry said. “And we beat them soundly.”
Boston College (4-3, 1-2 ACC) led 28-0 at halftime, but Kai Robichaud’s 5-yard run cut the lead to 28-21 with 2:55 left in the third quarter. He narrowed it down and gained momentum from the beginning. 4th. But Robichaud was stopped on a fourth-and-1 up the middle, and Virginia Tech capitalized on its ensuing possession, taking a 35-21 lead on Tuten’s 6-yard run with 11:02 left.
Tuten carried the ball 18 times and also scored on touchdown runs of 83 and 61 yards, the latter of which clinched the game with 8:28 remaining. He also completed a 20-yard touchdown pass from Drones.
“Every game is special,” Tuten said. “That’s how I look at it. I felt a little bit better today. I had a bye week. I felt really good during practice (because my knee hurt). I took the knee brace off. I felt fast, I felt good, I felt fluid. I just came out and hit the ball today, and that’s what we needed.”
Drones ran for 11 yards and scored 1 yard on the Hokies’ first two possessions, completing 14 of 18 for 164 yards and rushing for 40 yards. Behind Tuten and Drones, the Hokies gained a season-high 533 yards.
Thomas Castellanos threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles, finishing with 372 yards.
“We felt very well prepared for the game,” Boston College coach Bill O’Brien said. “Obviously, I was wrong. Whatever it was, we have to prepare differently and better. We have to understand that. … We have to coach better. We have a good cashing staff. Yes, we have a lot of experience. But we didn’t play well tonight, so it’s up to us to be better. We have to coach and hopefully we can turn things around.”

Boston College: Performance was disappointing for the Eagles. They fumbled on back-to-back possessions in the first quarter, both leading to touchdowns for Virginia Tech, but they fell behind early and were unable to recover. Defensively, they couldn’t beat the Hokies, allowing a season-high in yards.
Virginia Tech: The Hokies played perhaps their most complete game of the season, winning their last two games by a combined score of 73-28. After an unimpressive start to the season, he seems to be improving.
Scootin Tuten
Tuten’s 266 rushing yards broke the school record of 253 held by Darren Evans, set against Maryland in 2008. Virginia Tech’s coaching staff took Tuten out of the game, but realized how close he was to the record and let him play. Back to the break. Tuten set the mark with a 17-yard run on the Hokies’ final drive.
“I don’t usually like to do that, but it was a school record at a school like Tech that has a lot of great running backs, and his performance deserved it,” Pry said.

Virginia Tech defensive end Antwaun Powell-Ryland tied a career-high with four sacks, making him the third time since joining Virginia Tech before the start of last season. Powell-Ryland, who holds Virginia Tech’s single-game record with former NFL All-Pro Bruce Smith and current defensive line coach J.C. Price, has 11 sacks and at least 10 sacks in a season. He became the first Virginia Tech player to do so. It was the first sack in a season since Darryl Tapp had 10 in 2005.
“He’s always hungry,” Pry said. “He’s very confident. He’s one of those guys you can rely on to make plays when you need to. He’s proven that.”
