No. 9 Miami fought off Virginia Tech’s upset bid on Friday night with a big assist off a controversial replay review.
The Hokies led for much of the game until giving up the go-ahead touchdown with 1:57 left, but Daquan Felton’s Hail Mary touchdown during an aerial duel nearly gave them the winning score. I saw it. A mass of corpses.
At least, that’s what the referees decided on the field at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
The chaotic final play moved on to a replay review. After much consideration, the ruling of a touchdown on the field was reversed.
The referees did not say much about what caused them to change their original ruling.
The game was declared over with Miami winning 38-34. The Hurricanes improved to 5-0, but the Hokies fell to 2-3.
“It’s a tough call. … I hope they take that decision correctly,” Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry said. According to Andy Bitter of Tech Sideline. “I empathize with the kids, the coaches, the fans and hope they get it right.”
