MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Mid-Ohio Valley high school students were able to tour the manufacturing site at the Washington County Career Center Friday morning.
Companies such as Momentive, Syensqo, and KRATON Polymers set up booths to share information with students about their company activities and possible careers on offer.
Career Center Industrial Training Manager Kurt Copen said the “Manufacturing in Action” event is a good way for students to understand how local technical training opportunities can help them in their careers.
“All of the training programs we do here, including chemical technicians, industrial maintenance, and instrument power, are loaned out to chemical plants, our sponsors Momentive and Shinsko, and also to Clayton here. ,” Copen said. “Then we move into the trades, the HVAC world, welding and commercial truck driving, so we have people here who can contribute to those careers as well.”
Copen said the event also shows companies that MOV has a workforce they can rely on in the future.
“It’s so important to our community that these great companies stay here and have the right people and talented people,” he said. “And we feel that our program directly lends itself to that kind of training, the kind of training that is needed to get employees out of school and into the field.”
Momentive HR Solutions Analyst Christine Bailey said the event also helps students learn what they can expect from careers in the various industries on display.
“This gives us more knowledge about what a chemical processing plant is, what we do in a chemical processing plant and what opportunities there are,” she explained. I did.
Wayne Anderson, Manufacturing Excellence Lead at Syensqo, said it will also give students an opportunity to experience products being made in the proverbial backyard.
“We want our students to be exposed to some of the products that are made here in the Mid-Ohio Valley,” Anderson said. “Many of them have no idea about some of the specialties and opportunities we have here in the Mid-Ohio Valley.”
The Manufacturing in Action event was held in conjunction with National Manufacturing Day, which recognizes and promotes manufacturing careers across the United States.
