Wayne County 8th graders explore future careers – Wayne County Times

Approximately 800 Wayne County eighth graders spent this Thursday exploring dozens of different career options at the 2024 Career Carnival held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra.

The event, hosted by Wayne County Community Schools, featured more than 60 vendors, ranging from skilled tradesmen to emergency services. Students were able to receive hands-on demonstrations and interact with experts from Optimax, Halco, Garlock, and several other local companies and organizations.

Vehicles from Wayne County EMS, Sheriff’s Office and other vendors were also parked on site, giving students an up-close look at their future careers.

Perhaps the highlight for most attendees will be the six inflatable bounce houses and obstacle course installed thanks to the event’s multiple sponsors, including Reliant, ABX and Constellation brands.

Christina Marty with Wayne County Community Schools says this is just one of the opportunities schools offer students to get out of the classroom and learn. Later this month, the group will host “empowerME,” an event exclusively for 10th grade girls in the area. Marty said he expects hundreds of local students, presenters and volunteers to discuss topics such as mental health issues. The event will be held at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES Conference Center in Newark on October 15th and 16th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
