On October 25th, Wayne State University students will host the second annual Detroit Youth Health Expo. The event is a free event designed to encourage local high school students to explore careers in the health care field.
As many as 300 students are expected to attend the event, where they will network with medical professionals and discover opportunities available in the medical field. Wayne State President Emeritus M. Roy Wilson will serve as the keynote speaker.
Event organizers said they hope to address the lack of urban students choosing medicine as a career by offering students numerous job options.

“There are so many opportunities in health care,” said James Wirag, a first-year medical student and co-founder and president of DYHE. “Whether you become a doctor, pharmacist, nurse or even a dental hygienist, these careers offer stability and a chance to secure your future at Michigan’s largest employer.”
This year’s expo will feature panels from medical professionals as well as interactive stations that give students direct access to career information. Participants will also have access to various departments within the university, including the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
“By introducing young people in the Detroit community to careers in health care, we not only address critical workforce needs, but also empower future leaders who will contribute to the health and well-being of our city and beyond.” We can,” the medical director said. Dr. Wael Sakr.
Several faculty and students are volunteering for the event, and local businesses and organizations will provide financial support. Sponsors include the Irvin D. Reed Honors College; Dean’s Office; Wayne Med Direct. WSUSOM Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access.
