Why you should take the first step on your fitness journey in Acworth

Walking is the most popular form of exercise for good reason. You’ll sleep better, think better, and feel better.

According to the American Heart Association, walking briskly for 150 minutes a week reduces your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some cancers. It also improves mental health, bone strength, memory, and reduces the risk of depression and dementia.

And for those near Acworth looking to take the first step toward a healthier life, the lake town may have what you need.

Walking for health? Start with a simple goal

Logan Farm Park

Terrace Drive and Tanyard Creek parks have been combined into 120 acres of nature trails, fishing areas and playgrounds known as Logan Farm Park. The trail includes a 0.5-mile walking track surrounding a recreational field and a 3.3-mile “easy” nature trail that alltrails.com says will take about 42 minutes to complete. The park is located at 4405 Cherokee St.

Allatoona Creek Park

About 9 miles south is Allatoona Creek Park. The 1,450-acre property is a thriving area with plenty of wildlife. The park offers bow hunting during deer season, but there are also miles of walking trails for those who want to experience nature without arrows.

The Turtle Back Connector is a flat trail that crosses Little Allatoona Creek to a wetland where herons are common. But there are many more paths.

For more information about the park’s trails, visit cobbcounty.org/parks/parks-and-nature/locations/allatoona-creek-park. The park is located at 5690 Old Stilesboro Road.

cable park

On the north side of Lake Acworth is a cable park. It is 25 acres and includes a boardwalk, beach, playground, pavilion, and fishing area. There is also a boardwalk connecting Collins Circle and Wynn Street. Pets are not allowed on the beach, but leashed pets are allowed on the trail at 4425 Beach St.

patriots park

Then there’s Patriots Park at 1485 Kellogg Creek Road. The 33-acre property offers a variety of activities, including two off-leash dog areas and a playground. After taking their dog to Portriots Park, pet owners can enjoy a 0.2-mile breezy paved walk around nearby meadows and a 1.2-mile paved trail around the park. You can.
