2024 NFL trade deadline: 8 big-name moves that should happen after Bills, Jets make their mark at WR

There are six weeks left in the 2024 NFL regular season, meaning we are quickly approaching both the midpoint of the schedule and the newly postponed trade deadline. All 32 teams have until 4pm ET on Tuesday, November 5th to make player changes, and there are a number of big names rumored to be available. We’ve already seen two big trades involving star wide receivers fall through. The Jets acquired Davante Adams from the Raiders, and the Bills acquired Amari Cooper from the Browns.

With that in mind, here are some of our own trade suggestions as the deadline approaches.

Potential compensation: Conditional 2025 fifth-round pick

Although some medical experts have suggested he should consider retirement due to his concussion history, Tua Tagovailoa appears to be on track to return to the field this season. But since when did Miami successfully put all of its eggs in Tua’s basket? Lance is still a project, but he showed first-round athleticism under Mike McDaniel in San Francisco. , Dallas left him tied to the bench. He would be a low-risk, high-upside rental as insurance for Tagovailoa.

Potential compensation: 2025 fifth-round pick

A year after acquiring Cam Akers during the season, Aaron Jones’ return from a hip injury gives the Vikings more depth in the backfield. And Pierce has seen his role change from week to week in Houston, where the Texans have gotten good results from Akers, Joe Mixon and Dare Ogunbouyere. His size, speed and power combo is key to Kevin O’Connell’s attack, but would be a more balanced complement to Jones, who has an extensive injury history. Anything to keep Sam Darnold comfortable.

Note: The Raiders agreed to trade Adams to the Jets after this article was published.

This has been so much discussed that it would be a mild shock if a reunion between Adams and former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers didn’t happen. Also, considering how well the Jets have responded to Rodgers, this might not be a wise bet as it would only mean firing the coach early in a volatile “all-in” campaign. Still, with A-Rod’s rich history and perfect chemistry, if there’s anyone who can help get A-Rod back to Pro Bowl form, it’s likely Adams.

Potential compensation: 2025 fifth-round pick

He was supposed to be part of the one-two punch-out wide that boosted Will Levis in Tennessee, but the Titans were rather forced into the inevitable with Levis’ sluggish offense going 1-2. They might get him something before he leaves in free agency in 2025. 4 start. He’s 32 years old and has some knee problems, but his value isn’t high. But for a championship favorite like the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes is heavily reliant on rookie Xavier Worthy and aging Travis Kelce while Laci Rice and Marquise Brown are injured, making the potential This may be essential for stretch runs.

Potential compensation: 2025 fifth-round pick

The Steelers have been sniffing around big wideouts this year, from Adams to Brandon Aiyuk, but there are plenty of lower-tier replacements that could be utilized. Thielen is one of them, returning from an injury at age 34 and working to rebuild the Panthers, who were stuck in a quagmire. Although he has a much lower ceiling than a playmaker like Adams, he is one of the most reliable possession targets in the NFL when healthy, and is a logical addition to the more explosive George Pickens in Pittsburgh’s traditional offense. We have become a great partner.

Potential compensation: Conditional 2025 third-round pick

The Eagles signed Haason Reddick to a conditional 2026 third-rounder before the season, but Bryce Huff, a valuable offseason prospect, has yet to play an active role. Additionally, while general manager Howie Roseman has previously been eager to make mid-season bets on aging veterans, Miller has a history of playing with new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and has a history of playing with Denver. He made his final Pro Bowl appearance under the Broncos’ coaching staff. Suspended until Week 8, he will make a last-ditch effort to reinvigorate the Eagles’ haphazard pass rush.

Potential compensation: 2025 fifth-round pick

The Browns have plenty of reason to be sellers, boasting a number of quality defensive assets while starting 1-5, and Detroit has an edge with young star Aidan Hutchinson out indefinitely with a broken foot. There are good reasons to buy Rusher. Smith has already toured the NFC North, starting with the Packers and also suiting up for the Vikings, and while the 32-year-old is better suited as a rotational rusher, he’s an obvious choice for a thin unit in Motown, home of the Lions. It will be an upgrade. He is eager to further challenge for the NFC title.

Potential compensation: 2025 sixth-round pick

Jones is arguably the Patriots’ most proven cornerback, but new manager Jerod Mayo recently acknowledged that New England is just beginning a multi-year rebuild. So Jones, 31, is a logical trade chip as the 2025 free agency deadline approaches. He’s been more solid than spectacular in recent years, but his experience could be invaluable to Washington, which has a potential playoff contender thanks to rookie Jaden Daniels. Although he has a lot of talent, he is having a tough time at the back end of Dan Quinn’s defense.

Potential compensation: 2025 fourth-round pick

When at full speed, Baker is arguably one of the top safeties in the NFL. However, he briefly requested a trade from Arizona State before this season, all while asking for a significant raise and missing multiple games in both 2022 and 2023. His transfer prospects could increase as the Cardinals struggle defensively and are off to a 2-4 start. And Houston has been battling injuries on the back end with Jeff Okudah and Jimmy Ward both injured. As a rental player for the remainder of the season, he could help the Texans’ chances of moving up.
